“As manufacturers are no longer bound by national approvals, or interpretations of application for the panels they produce, but unified with a single standard, the market will be more open, more competitive and will bring better value to buyers,” said Teixeira.

Europontex Welcomes Single European Sandwich Panel Standard

Europontex Business Division Manager, Paulo Teixeira has welcomed the introduction of a single European sandwich panel standard, he said: “Architects and stress analysts now have an instrument to compare products without complex rules of approval and interpretation; they should now ask clients, 'Does the panel you buy have the  Mark”

“The product norm that regulates sandwich panels, EN 14509, was published in the European Community Official Gazette in December 2009 and the period of coexistence ended on 1st October 2010,” said Teixeira, “After this period, all sandwich panels - excluding perforated, curved and single-sheet panels - may be sold only if they bear the  marking.”

He explained: “We achieved this sandwich panel compliance early in 2010. We welcomed its introduction because it makes it easier for buyers to compare competitors’ offerings. As manufacturers are no longer bound by national approvals, or interpretations of application for the panels they produce, but unified with a single standard, the market will be more open, more competitive and will bring better value to buyers.”

 “Introducing this single standard for sandwich panels means there will no longer be any individual national technical approvals, as the standard will replace the approvals. All compliant sandwich panels will be identified with the  mark.”

“This mark indicates only that the panels may be used, it does not specify the area of application or the possible application of marked products; the panel manufacturer is free to define its product quality setting the characteristic values of materials. The standard does however, stipulates the internal production control and documentation of results.”
